Transcription: The first ever video recording unit was built by RCA as early as 1954 and was called the Vision Electronic Recording Apparatus or VIRA for short. VIRA used up more than 10 miles of video tape for just one hour of recording time. Eventually, the system of scanning diagonally across a slow moving tape was produced and this is the system used in modern domestic and professional recorders today.
